Toiletries basket

Postby Geordielass on Sun Jul 19, 2009 10:01 am

I'd like to share with you my daughter's great idea. She travels a lot on business and stays at quite a few hotels where they give you a fresh set of mini toiletries every day. She has a large basket in her bathroom at home absolutely full of these plus samples and mini travel soaps, shampoos etc. Whenever she has guests they are invited to use anything from this collection and I recently made use of a lovely luxurious cucumber face mask and coconut body butter. This has cost her nothing and given me the opportunity to try something that I may not have tried otherwise.

Yes on various business trips and holidays I also come across these toiletries and have on occasion taken them home with me for the same purpose of having them available to any friends I may have staying. It is one of the few things left that a hotel will give you for free but I have always found that leaving a tip each day for the cleaner also ensures you get over and above items of toiletries.

I follow the same practice of collecting toiletries at hotels and the like. A friend of mine did this while on a cruise and received many very nice items. Sometimes homeless shelters can really use the toiletries, so whenever I have too many, I just share with them.

This is a great idea! I just came home from being away this weekend, and I actually collected toiletries from the hotel I was staying at so that I would have some for Christmas gifts. I think I'm going to make little lavender sachets as well. :D

They're great for personal use, too, when you run out of something or want a little treat like a special lotion or mask. And they're great to tuck in with another gift as an little something extra that doesn't make the gift cost more.
