Potatoes from peelings

Last year I dug some potato peelings into a small patch of soil where my gooseberry bush used to be and at the end of the year they had begun to grow, so, this year, early on, I did the same and also planted a couple of potatoes from my vegetable cupboard that had started to sprout. I am delighted to see how big the stalks and leaves have grown and I can't wait to see if there are any potatoes but I understand that you have to wait until the flowers have died. So far there aren't any flowers! Should there be some by now?

We plant potatoes every year in our garden. I have never planted them from the peelings only from the actual potato. Of course the potato needs to have eyes on it, that is what makes them grow. It all depends on the weather and when you planted your potatoes.
Right now our potatoes are doing great. No flowers, but a lot of green on top of the dirt. Did you hill them up once they started to sprout on top?

Growing potatoes from the peel works quite well. I grew up on a farm. My parents always used the peel. It did seem to work since we had good crops regularly. We produced potatoes for our own use and for a seasonal market so we did not earn big money from it but we sure did have some delicious potatoe dishes. I guess the fruits of ones labour would taste good:). My mum made them most delicious oven baked crisps.They were perfectly golden brown.The tip to the right shade of gold is brushing them with olive oil then then roast on low heat for 3 hours.Tastes as good as shop bought crisps.
